Turkish Warplanes Bomb Positions of PKK
By Bloomberg News | February 5, 2008
Turkish warplanes bombed 70 suspected positions of the Kurdistan Workers' Party, or PKK, in Iraq. The planes struck targets in the northern Iraqi regions of Avasin-Basyan and Hakurk in a 12-hour operation that began yesterday at 3 a.m. Turkish time, Turkey's military said on its Web site. "The targets we struck belonged to the PKK and great care has been taken to avoid civilian casualties," the military said.
Turkey has bombed and shelled PKK bases in Kurdish-controlled northern Iraq since December. America, which designates the PKK a terrorist organization, is providing Turkey with intelligence on the whereabouts of the militants.
