Iraq to Tell Iran To Stop Backing Terrorists

By LOLITA BALDOR, Associated Press | May 1, 2008

MEXICO CITY — A senior defense official says Iraqi leaders are hoping to present Iranian officials with the latest evidence that Iran is giving weapons and training support to terrorists in Iraq.

It is not known yet whether the Iranians agreed to the meeting. But the official says the Iraqis want to try let Iran know that the support is not helpful and should be stopped. The official spoke on condition of anonymity because of the sensitivity of the information.

Defense Secretary Robert Gates, who is meeting with Mexican leaders, has said America is not laying the groundwork for an attack against Iran. And his spokesman Geoff Morrell told reporters yesterday that he is not aware of any "ramping up or revision" of war plans for Iran at the Pentagon.
