Elected Officials, Community Groups, Environmentalists oppose consolidation
Reader comment on: Manhattan Is No Place for Bronx Mail, Group Says
in response to reader comment: Too blue

John Allen's response is understandable if not accurate. The people who are in opposition to Bronx consolidation include numerous community and business groups, enviromentalists, and individual citizens. The people of the Bronx feel that they have substandard mail service before the consolidation of mail from the Bronx into Manhattan. There will be severe delays that impact upon people that are the most dependent upon mail service. It is logic not scare tactics. The Bronx has the highest rate of asthma among young people because truck traffic before consolidation. Check out traffic in Midtown Manhattan, where the Bronx mail is going to be processed and see if this is a "scare tactic" or reality.

Speak to the small business owners who depend upon the business they receive from postal workers who are employed at the Bronx GPO, an operation that is in effect 24 hours a day, seven days a week. If that operation is shut down do you suggest that the business owners move as well?

Sometimes reality is bad enough, we don't need scare tactics for people to see what really impacts upon them in a negative way. There is nothing good for the Bronx community at any level in lowering their mail service.
