Reader comment on: Turnaround In the Math Wars

The proble that I have is that my district is filled with true believers in "fuzzy math." The people in power think that the reason their program has failed is that it hasn't been fully implemented. Hundreds of thousands of dollars are sunk into online programs for tracking whether or not students have met the so called standards. I'm forced to use the Connected math series which is probably the worst math series ever written. My students cannot add, subtract, multiply or divide and I'm expected to teach them how to solve equations. I take that back. I'm supposed to guide them in discovering how to solve equations. Blah.
