Another sad diatribe against secularism by the 'christian mullahs'
Reader comment on: Freedom For Religion

There was once a time not so long ago when comments such as those of Father Neuhaus would have evoked no comment from those who disagree with him, as they would then be branded as 'anti-Catholic' and therefore fanatics. He himself tries to evoke this spirit, as is typical of Catholic intellectuals who see themselves (or not, it may merely be a political tactic) as continuously under attack by the Evil Secularists, when he claims that Justice Black had a "long-standing animus toward Catholicism" while he and his fellow injured Catholics are free to impune and demonize those with whom he disagrees. That he would try to undermine the logic and reason of Justice Black's decision, one which should be a comfort for religionists in that it supports the protection and free exercise of religion, shows his lamentable lack of respect for secularists, in that he attempts to portray them as determined to destroy religion in all its forms in the same way that tobacco is being slowly eliminated from public use. Instead of finding joy in the Constitution's protection for his free exercise thereof, he tries to increase the scope of religion's sway over vast tracks of public mentality to allow it dominion in the same way that Muslim clerics do in their societies.
There will only be peace and respect between theists and secularists when the former cease attempting to impose their will on the latter, and cease blaming the ills of society on other than themselves, supported by their hypocritical self-portrayal as the arbiters of public and private morality.
