The most amazing advance of the American Constitution is the Establishment clause of the 1st Amendment, which is exactly opposite to John McCain's statement that the Constitution established America as a Christian. Our Constitution specifies that we are a secular nation. Some claim that the values enunciated in our Constitution derive from "Judeo-Christian" values. The truth is that we select certain things from the Bible that are concordant with our values and reject others that conflict with them. Moreover, democracy was not invented either by Jews or Christians, but by pagan Greeks. It is not the offensiveness of McCain's statement to all who are not Christian that is particularly bothersome, but rather the falsification of one of the most important principles of our Constitution.
