Reader comment on: Judges Press IRS on Church Tax Break

Submitted by barbara graham, Feb 8, 2008 06:31

Scientology's agreement with the IRS should be repealed. While it claims to address human rights issues, drug rehabilitation and disaster response, what it offers in those fields are nebulous at best.

Scientology Volunteer Ministers swarm to disaster like flies. They bring no real tangible help. When people need clean water and toilet paper, the VMs offer "touch assists" and copies of their 'The Way to Happiness' booklet.

Narconon, their drug rehab program, is overly long sauna sessions, toxic doses of vitamins, and hours spent studying Scientology courses. This understandably is dismaying to worried parents, who have shelled out up to $30,000 up front for this treatment. No refunds, sorry.

Their 'Youth for Human Rights' group targets college kids, a ploy by Scientology to improve their public image. Its own acts suggest that human rights should be reserved only for Scientologists. Tom Cruise expressed the wish that the rest of us be consigned to history books.

Germany considers Scientology a coercive, totalitarian organization rather than a religion, and Germany knows one when they see one.

Scientology needs to lose that tax exemption now!

The IRS should not oppose yanking it. But, Scientology is very good at influencing people in positions of power. I can't help wondering why the IRS would reward an organization that indulges in this kind of behavior.
