No president can do without armed forces

It is a very discouraging sign of our times that law professors battle fully constitutional law. The constitution in many ways recognizes the need for a military establishment. Both Democratic and Republican Presidents have used our military to protect the interests of our nation. It is worthwhile mentioning Jefferson, who fought the Barbary pirates in the early part of the 19th century. This war was not unlike our present engagements and was fought successfully by our navy and marines ( ...to the shores of Tripoli! ).
Do these professors think that we, the citizens of this country, can live good lives without armed forces to protect this nation? without honoring those who risk their lives to protect this country? and where would they be if they were not protected?
