New Zealand ecomonic crises?

You mention that "New Zealand and Chile abandoned socialistic policies for freer markets because the former weren't working well and induced economic crises." I am curious for further explanation of this, as in NZ free market reforms are generally considered to have been a big mistake, with unfortunate consequences (possibly greater than the original economic crises...).
