Consider the victim
Reader comment on: Oregon Supreme Court To Hear Debate On Circumcision

Submitted by John Dalton, Nov 6, 2007 10:51

I am a victim of male circumcision performed in childhood without personal consent or adequate therapeutic need. I bitterly resent the disfigurment, disfunction and shame inflicted upon me by this ancient and primitive practice.

James Bolt has every right to choose this mutilation for himself in the name of his religion. To inflict it on a minor child is not acceptable in the context of the principles of law, ethics and human rights that modern western society claims to hold dear.

The time has come to consign this six-thousand year old practice to the dustbin of history.
