EXTRA TIME LEVELS THE PLAYING FIELD FOR LD STUDENTS
Reader comment on: Student Backlash Brews Against Untimed Tests
in response to reader comment: Reply Learning Disabilities

Submitted by NANCY SIMONETTI, Oct 3, 2007 16:40

When a student with a learning disability is given the accommodation of extra time for test taking, this is simply leveling the playing field. They have the disadvantage of processing things more slowly and the extended time given helps to correct this problem. They then are on a equal level with non-disabled students. The purpose of these tests is to show what they know, not how fast they can do it.
