Who wins if we leave?
Reader comment on: Baker's Panel Rules Out Iraq Victory

Wars always have a winner and a loser, just like any other contest of will, strenght, and intelligence. In the end, the loser of a war has a loss of moral. The winner's moral is boosted.

If the U.S.A. pulls out of Iraq, we lose don't we? Wouldn't that give confidence to the winners? The terrorists would become bolder. Iran and Syria and all other supporters of the insurgency would realize that there is NO punishment for defying the U.S.. To them, the United States would be a little dog with a loud bark but no bite.

The U.S. could easily win this war, just not the way we are running it now. First of all, people have to understand that wars cannot be one and still be politically correct. We must stop treating these insurgents like they deserve the rights that we as Americans share. Our soldiers in Iraq must always be shooting to kill.

Another reason that this war is going so badly is because of the media and the half-truths it feeds the American people. We are killing many insurgents for each of our soldiers lost in battle. If the Pentagon would just release the enemy body count moral for the war would rise. Also the insurgents use our OWN media to hurt our OWN moral. They can kill any number of civilians and just have another "civilian" tell our media that Marine's did it and automatically our soldiers are murderous outlaws. If only our newspapers shouted epic headlines of victories or honorable exploits of our soldiers then moral would also be stronger. Instead the media only trashed the war and zealously counts the deaths of our soldiers.

In the end we need to have a higher opinion of our soldiers than of the enemies. We must press harder on Iraq and increase our involvment to rout the insurgents from every hole that they hide in. After they flee to Iran and Syria and the neighboring countries we can determine the next course of action. Bottom line is we CANNOT appease the terrorists and we must fight as if it was the war that decided the fate of the U.S., since it might just come to that. Iraq is not Vietnam, we cannot just run. Remember, the Vietcong were never bold enough to attack us on our own soil, the terrorists were. If they win, I can guarantee they will try again over and over until the U.S. looks so feeble and defenseless that all our enemies around the world would'nt be able to withstand the urge to attack us.
