RE: 1st Generation American
Reader comment on: Al Qaeda Cell May Be Loose in U.S., British Plot Hints

Submitted by Jeanine MG, Aug 6, 2007 18:55

Thank you for your comments. My large, extended multi-national family migrated to New York in the 1800s. Part of that family was Arab and Italian. They loved their cultural flavor, yet there was nothing more important to them than the American flag. If my Arab-Italian grandfather had been alive on 9/11, he would have folded up and died from sheer humiliation. My Iranian husband was sick over 9/11 and could barely speak for days. His only trip "back home" after 35 years was to visit his parents' graves in 2000 - when he got off the plane back in New York, he knelt on the ground to thank God for sending him here all those years ago. He loved his culture, but knew exactly why he came here and his little citizenship flag became his proudest possession. We need to buck up and take a hard line, not only against those who are here for dubious purpose, but toward other Americans who are losing themselves in political correctness. See the related proposals of people like Peter King and Newt Gingrich (and I'm NOT a Republican), and use your courage to help put through these reforms now. Do we do the right thing by others all the time? No way. That doesn't mean we give up ourselves for slaughter.
