They continue to exist because they provide goods and services within areas that are considered statutory crimes but are not viewed as social crimes: Prostitution, gambling, drugs, etc. They also derive revenues from scams which greedy suckers fall for. When demand for their goods and services and diminution of the greed factor in the sucker base dies off, so will they.
