Brilliant, but only half a man?
Reader comment on: Conrad Black - the Strands of Honor

Submitted by Anthony Steyning, Jul 21, 2007 10:38

Hubristic, filled with confidence but of the throw-away kind, or merely completely insensitive and morally uncouth, thus only half a man? (Or as Bertold Brecht acidly put it, why be man if you can be a success?) And could it be that with all his equanimity, his sang-froid, our man, the erudite, gifted and largely self-made press baron, incredibly, exhibits the traits of one who at his deepest level's completely devoid of self-esteem. That apparently material success can emanate from profound feelings of worthlessness, a part that with equal efficiency... destroys.

Including, sadly, a good number of thrown in other lives.
