'elegant' is the word that comes to mind after reading this article. Clearly you are a good friend of Mr. Black, standing with him thru good times & bad. It's helpful to recall the many good things he accomplished over the years, done at times I'm sure not because they were popular or would win him supporters or acclaim but because he thought it the right thing to do.
Mr. Black was formerly a customer of mine when living in Toronto. I remember his generosity at Christmas time many years ago. He impressed me then as a great and good man who didn't look down on those working in blue collar fields like mine.
Like you, I was expecting an acquittal. Based on what I'd read from a variety of writers at the trail, the jury had little upon which to base a guilty verdict. I fear the reputation of the federal prosecutor may have weighed too heavily on the minds of the majority of these jurors. Hopefully with careful preparation, Mr. Black's appeal will unravel what many consider a poor decision.
