Extraordinary: a text book on lessons people fail to learn
Reader comment on: L'Affaire Némirovsky

Submitted by Sir Joshua, Jun 27, 2007 08:02

This book could have been written about people trying to social climb at any country club in the U.S. When we try to change ourselves and our 'lesser superiors' don't want us getting the leg up to put us in a better place, or at least, what we perceeve as a better place, they'd sell us out in a flash. This book could be about Jews, as it is, Christians, or the world in general. It sounds like a brilliant lesson we all learn too late. Kids trying to crash the velvet rope deal with this, old ladies playing cards and sniffing up to those they admire put up with this. I must say I was turned off from buying the book with the Robert Doisneau-like photo on the cover...I think it was the cover being too post WW II. Ecolists between classes at the Sorbonne maybe, or an old movie still. Kudos to Prof Eisler, an excellent article.
