Literary criticism is only worth having if it at least strives to be literary in its own right, with a scope, complexity, and authority that no blogger I know even wants to achieve.
I'd invite your attention to Reginald Shepherd's blog (http://reginaldshepherd.blogspot.com) for "scope, complexity and authority about literature" that far exceeds what I find in this editorial. Perhaps "ethical and intellectual crotchets" also wend their way to the op-ed pages.
