In psychology, there's an idea that every family has a black sheep. The black sheep doesn't necessarily exist because the person is bad. The black sheep exists because the other members of the family need a target to deflect attention away from their own issues and problems. Unfortunately, I think Mississippi, my home state, has become the black sheep of the U.S.
