Every family's values are different. First of all we should respect each other's values. Gay marriage is important because it gives us certain rights. Right now it means my partner is living in exile, because she can not sponsor me to live in NY. Right now I am sponsoring her to live in the Netherlands, my home country, where gay marriage has been legal for years now. Gay Marriage in NY is one step in the direction of us being able to one day be there for my inlaws when they need us. If you want to believe in God in the sense that he hates our sin, fine... all the power to you. Just don't stand in my way when I want to live my life a certain way. We and our loved ones pay taxes as well as any other person.... we have rights too. It's your right to have an opinion... it should be our right to be able to get married.
