A given with the non-traditional teaching candidates is that they have already been employed full-time. They have a good work ethic, and they have deliberated about entering the teaching profession. In the past five years, we have seen traditionally trained, certified new teachers dropping out in droves as the reality of the job is appreciated. Many of these new teachers cited short hours and long breaks and vacations as job attractors, while non-traditionally trained teachers cited job satisfaction and making a contribution as job attractors.
