"Political Correctness" Gone Out of Control?
Reader comment on: A Madrassa Grows In Brooklyn

According to Daniel Pipes' article, it appears that there are too many serious consequences to consider in permitting the establishment of the Khalil Gibran International Academy in Park Slope.
First, why would Ms. Almontaser-- known to hold extremist views quite hostile to America and Israel--have the right to become the "principal designer" of this school? Second, why cannot all children--whether Arab, Muslim, or non-Muslim--be encouraged to learn Arabic within the realm of the current NYC public schools system? Third, why does this language training require a separate school at all? It would seem that such a school as KGIA would more likely be populated with mostly Arab and Muslim children than non-Muslim groups.
Mr. Pipes has presented concise and honest arguments with which I must agree, against the building of the KGIA. There are too many frightening possibilities to consider, and they appear to outweigh any benefit that could come from this separate school. While the proposal for the KGIA has real merit in theory, its actual implementation would be very difficult to monitor and oversee, and could turn into a major problem for New York City. A move toward more "assimilation" of all peoples in our society, seems far more desirable than a "separation" of cultures!
I believe that Mayor Bloomberg and other relevant City officials should analyze and study Mr. Pipes' thoughtful explanation, and re-think the decision for the KGIA's establishment--one that could turn out to be dangerous and damaging in the long run.
