The Acela is too expensive
Reader comment on: New Amtrak Service Could Boost ‘the Sixth Borough'

Submitted by izengabe, Apr 20, 2007 11:26

The $258 roundtip fare to Philly charged by Amtrak for the Acela is outragous. Especially why you can take a bus or NJ transit train for about $30 roundtrip. Granted those options usually take about 1 hour longer but does Amtrak really think the 1 hour savings (assuming they are on time) is really worth $230?

Even taking the regional service (which in many cases is only a 17 minute time difference) is $44 cheaper.

Amtrak's pricing is all out of whack which is not only a shame but also a symptom of a very porrly run company. I have to believe that is Amtrak was run better more people would ride the rails and they might actually make more money.
