Reader comment on: Come Home, Mr. Rangel

In answer to the comment regarding pride and which posed the question : "And why are Mississippians so passive about his comments?"
Well - the referenced article itself mentions that Mississippians are livid and took to local papers expressing their displeasure. I am sure many have attempted to voice their displeasure on a more national scale -- but other media outlets aren't all that interested in 'Mississippi Pride' stories. (Or 'Mississippi Anything' stories if you judge by the New Orleans-laden coverage of Hurricane Katrina -- which, incidentally, did not hit New Orleans...)
But don't question Mississippi Pride.
For 15 months tens of thousands of us have lived in gutted out homes or in 20 foot FEMA trailers in our front yards while we scrape our lives back together because this is home and we love it here. Honestly -- that might partly explain our rather mild response to Mr. Rangel's offensive comment... It's so utterly unfounded in light of our recent struggles that it's hardly worthy of a response.
But for the record -- I've responded here: Who the hell wants to live in Mississippi? I do.
