Phillips Sales Total Tops $11 million

The tally for Phillips de Pury's three auctions — the MOCA benefit auction, Contemporary Art Part I, and Contemporary Art Part II — came to $72.8 million. The Contemporary Art Part II auction, on Friday, brought in more than $11.8 million. The top two lots were David Hockney's "Gregory in the Pool 1 (Paper Pool 4)," which sold for $433,000, and Elizabeth Peyton's "John Squires" for $421,000. The sale saw 34 records from artists such as the artist known as Mr. ($144,500) and Ivan Navarro ($96,500). Newcomers at auction established their prices, including Dan Colen (with Nate Lowman), Dash Snow, Aaron Young, and Paul Rusconi. Auction records were also set for David LaChapelle, Vladimir Clavijo-Telepnev, and Lorna Simpson.
