Day-Lewis in Talks To Star in 'Nine'

By Staff Reporter of the Sun | May 16, 2008

Daniel Day-Lewis is considering a starring role in the film adaptation of "Nine," a musical directed by Rob Marshall for the Weinstein Company, Variety reported Thursday.

Mr. Day-Lewis would play the role of Guido Contini, a famous film director who suffers creative and personal crises when he is torn between the multiple women in his life. Penelope Cruz, Marion Cotillard, Sophia Loren, Nicole Kidman, and Judi Dench will play the women, according to Variety.

The actor would replace Javier Bardem, originally cast in the role, who said he was too exhausted from work and the awards season to take on the part.

The Maury Yeston-Arthur Kopit musical starred Raul Julia when it made its premiere on Broadway in 1982 and was a vehicle for Antonio Banderas when it was revived in 2003.
